Policy & process

What happens after you report a Google review

Once the report is filed, the decision is out of your hands. Here is what the wait is actually made of.

A report goes to Google's own reviewers, who assess the content against the policy category you selected, alongside any evidence you attached.

There is no live tracker and no notification saying an assessment has started, which is why so many owners refresh their profile wondering whether anything is happening at all.

Send us the review and get an honest answer.

From £99 a removal, priced per review. No charge for the eligibility check.

The three outcomes

A report ends in one of three states, and only one of them is what you want.

  • Removed: the review disappears from the profile, usually without any message to you
  • Kept: the review stays, which means the report did not demonstrate a breach
  • Restricted or removed with the account: occasionally the reviewer's account is actioned, which takes the review with it

Timelines in practice

Timing varies with the category, the evidence and the volume of reports Google is handling.

  • Straightforward spam and duplicate cases can be decided within hours
  • Cases needing a written argument typically take one to three days
  • A re-report after a refusal starts a fresh cycle, so plan for days rather than minutes

Reading a refusal correctly

A refusal is about the report, not about the reviewer. It tells you which argument did not land, and nothing more.

  • Check whether the review is still visible in an incognito window or on Maps, since profile views can cache
  • Note the date of the decision: it matters if you re-report with new evidence
  • Decide whether to escalate on a new argument or to stop and handle the review another way

Questions we get asked

No, and there is no way to request the reasoning. That is why the first report should be written as tightly as possible, so a refusal gives you something to correct.

A removal is permanent, but visibility can lag while Maps and Search caches update. If the same person posts again, that is a new review and a new report.

Yes, if the reply is short and factual. It does not affect the report, and future customers read the reply more closely than the review.
